The Journey of Life ... A Mystery or an Adventure

The Journey of Life ... A Mystery or an Adventure

Remembering
Rev. Carrie Hunter (January 24, 1942 - April 5, 2025)

We lead our lives like water flowing down a hill, going more or less
in one direction until we splash into something that forces us to find a new course.

Memoirs of a Geisha, by Arthur Golden

Hello, Innisfree readers. I used the above quote in April 2019 when my life had changed direction suddenly with the death of my sister and a close friend in Northern Ireland.

This will be a shorter newsletter in order to bring you up-to-date with the reason for the three month absence since February's last Innisfree Moment, and to acknowledge losing a special friend and ministerial colleague, also known to many of you, Rev. Carrie Hunter. Carrie stayed with me, mostly when she had a speaking engagement in Vancouver. In December I learned her Christmas plans had changed and she would be going to Banff to join her family, not likely to return to her apartment in Sidney, BC.

The mystery for me is that, whereas I had considered myself active and healthy, in January I developed a cough, which in February was diagnosed as pneumonia, requiring hospitalization, and as I am not yet back to my full healthy energetic state is the reason you haven't heard from me. As I write (May 4), I optimistically anticipate that to change very soon, and consciously do 'one more thing', each day to speed the journey.

Most important, I appreciate the 'above and beyond' overwhelming kindness of friends and neighbours in helping out with rides, providing food, and checking up on me, as well as the Fraser Health local home support team. Thank you! This is a new experience for me, and one I want to leave behind as quickly as possible.

Times of stillness can uncover thoughtful and creative insights leading to future growth, or a change in direction, so in the days ahead, let's celebrate and capture those images that arise, for each contributed - or is contributing - to today's adventure, and therein lies the mystery! Let's stay curious, shall we?

Until next time, from my heart to yours, Blessèd be. Namasté!

Rev. Carrie Hunter
