"We shall not cease from exploring, and the end of all our exploration will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time." - T.S. Eliot
This is Dorothy Blandford. Thank you for visiting Innisfree. I hope that what you hear or read, if you prefer, will 'speak' to you or spark an interest.
For the past number of months I have been on a sabbatical. It was time to pause a busy lifestyle, and reflect. During this time I rediscovered something I had written 25 years ago during a weekend retreat. The assignment was to connect with something in Nature that 'spoke' to us. Noticing some red shoots at the base of a tall cedar tree, this is what I said:
"I had my beginning when the flock of geese flew overhead three years ago; they dropped my seeds close to a tall cedar tree. I squirreled into the ground and lay quietly until spring. It was a bitter cold snowy winter, but the spring came early, and with the thaw and the sun I rose above the ground.
"In my first year I knew I was different from my tall cedar. My leaves were a different shape; and in the fall they turned red, and with the wind dropped to the ground. I wondered what my purpose was.
"Each year I mature and grow stronger, giving shade in the summer, and when with the fall my vibrant red leaves drop to the ground, they DO have a purpose - to nurture not only my roots but those of my cedar for the following spring."
Pondering what insight there could be for me today in those words, written so many years ago, I thought of the Seasons of my life. The Spring, a time of dreaming, of learning and creating foundations; the Summer - when I had written those words originally - a pendulum of peaks and valleys; and now, this year of my 70th birthday, which I consider the Autumn of my life, a time of yet another new beginning.
Suddenly, I SAW the message in the words of T.S. Eliot - my "fit" in life is continued service through Innisfree Ministry. The Universe, in Its infinite wisdom, instilled weeks on 'pause' where I'd been questioning, wondering. I KNOW now, I am at THE most exciting time of my life. Autumn - it's colourful, it's warm, and I have vast experiences of "Spring" and "Summer" to draw upon.
Whatever Season you are in, it is YOUR Season. May you see the blessings in each day, appreciate the Beauty of Nature, and may you always remember that YOU are very special.
This is Dorothy. Thank you for listening. Have a beautiful day. Until next time ... Namasté.
